All tests must be activated so that the laboratory can legally test a sample as well as efficiently tie a sample to the respective patient. Without activation, a sample cannot be tested. If it has been 14 days or less from send off and the patient still has the kit code, the patient should then activate their test and the laboratory may be able to test the sample if it is still viable. For most tests, if more than 14 days have passed or if the patient no longer has the kit code, the patient will need a replacement test sent to them.
